Winter time in Pacific NW is a slower time for horse photographers.  Though I do love photographing horses and their people with the wintry look of bare trees in the background, adding to the overall pastel feel of light blue or gray skies and pale yellow or tan grass on the ground (snow is much rarer, but it could happen) most people don't want photos of their horses in furry coats.  A shame, I think they look all velvety and cuddly.  The light is soft, so great for saturating color and eliminating shadows and the humans look pretty nice in their down and faux fur hats.  That is, if you can find a day where its dry and not too cold!

This is the time of year that I reflect on my business, how I did last year (mandatory for the tax man) take a look at what business decisions worked and which didn't and resolve to improve on the weak areas. I also take inventory of my equipment and send in any that could use cleaning or a tune up. So far I have upgraded my older desktop computer and added a few more 4TB hard drives and finally moved on over to Adobe Creative Cloud.

Its also a period of ideas.  What sounds interesting for 2016?  For me, its travel of course, starting to get organized for my trip to Iceland.  More roving reporter assignments and farm calls for portraiture also are sounding great.

I am resolving to make a separate easy to see all in one place price list including farm call fees available on my website.  I am determined to update my website with new photos.  I have been so lax about that and am now feeling a bit embarassed about how out of date it is when someone asks for the url.

I also resolve to follow through on getting some special projects started that have been percolating in my brain for awhile. There, I said it in public.  Now I must follow through.  Stay tuned for those!

I would also like to do one workshop this year, before things get too wild and crazy with travel for everyone. I will have a description of that once I come up with a date.

Currently, I have an article and photos published in the January issue of Flying Changes Magazine on the Equus Film Festival in NYC.

Next month in the magazine, as kind of a part two,  I report on my tour of the stables where 80 of the New York City Carriage Horses reside and work.

Here is my latest ad to appear in the February issue of FC magazine.
